Miscellaneous App's

There are dozens of applications that come with the Mac operating system (Mac OS).

While many of them are rarely used by normal users, some are items that may get used on a daily basis; such as Address Book, iCal, Preview and others.

This page will be used for hints relating to the programmes which don't have a specific section for them on the other Tip pages.

Beginner

  • In the Applications folder, an application called Font Book will let you view and organise your fonts. While not a powerful font organiser, it can help you categorise fonts for easier selection in certain OS X friendly applications.

Intermediate

  • iCal has the ability to cater for different time zones. Go to iCal > Preferences > turn on time zone support and you will be able to enter in appointments in different zones (e.g. sporting event overseas) and have it automatically translated to your local time.

  • When creating an appointment in iCal, you can list people from your Address Book that will be attending the appointment.

Advanced

  • When you create groups in Address Book, and there are people with multiple email addresses, you can choose which address a bulk email goes to through Edit > Edit Distribution List… and select the address you want.
